Smith Sunglasses were founded in 1965, by Dr.Smith, an orthodontist. He created the first pair of goggles, that featured a sealed thermal lens and yet allowed breathability through a vent foam. He originally made his goggles by hand, using his dental tools and household products, like glue and foam. Originally, he traded his goggles for ski lift tickets. Smith Sunglasses have since evolved, but still represent creativity, and passion for life.
Over the years Smith Optics, has become recognized for paving the way not only in ski goggles, but in sunglasses as well. They have gone on to produce the Fox-X, which is an anti-fog coating, and PMT, which is Perforated Membrane Technology, that produces a lens ventilation system, and patented their Slider series sunglasses, which is one of the most innovative and easily interchanged lenses available on sunglasses.

Smith Optics was inspired by an orthodontist, in his basement over fifty years ago.
