Everyone loves designer eyewear. Chanel, Coach, and Ray-Ban are just a few of the top name designers that make fantastic sunglasses. Every year these brands come out with fashionable new designs and everyone must have a pair for themselves. When I refer to "everyone," I of course mean those that can afford it. Designer sunglasses cost anywhere from $100 to over $1,000! This price tag is incredibly high especially for an accessory. That means that the rest of us, those who cannot afford the original designer eyewear at the full price, need to be on the hunt for discounts wherever we can find them.
When you are looking for a discount, however, make sure that you do not purchase a cheap knock-off! Not only are these imitations not the real thing, they can be very dangerous! Since they are made from inferior materials and are poorly constructed, they may break much more easily. Sunglasses also have a very important job: they protect your eyes from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Cheap sunglasses may have a lower grade of UV protection or offer you no protection at all. How dark the sunglasses are does not mean they block out more rays, in fact, that has almost nothing to do with it. The UV protection is technology that needs to be included when the glasses are manufactured. If it is not, the sunglasses do you no good at all!
In order to spot fake designer eyewear, you need to pay attention to a few details. The first clue will be the price: if you know that your favorite Coach sunglasses usually cost $250, and you find a pair for $50, you know this cannot be right. No one would make any money off them! The next clue to check for is the craftsmanship. If it feels light or looks cheap, it most likely is. When online, a dead giveaway is the phrase "Inspired by" or "Replica." Once you see this description, you know it is not a genuine product. Lastly, you can discover counterfeit designer eyewear by the packaging. Designer sunglasses never come without packing or in unmarked felt sleeves.
